eh how old already still comparing schools? :P anyhow the phrase isnt unique to acs to begin with. its but an abated version of the original quote by robert browning:
"Grow old along with me! The best is yet to be, the last of life, for which the first was made. Our times are in his hand who saith, 'A whole I planned, youth shows but half; Trust God: See all, nor be afraid!'"

Anyway, the old man is probably just feeling annoyed with himself for making the wrong choice to study in that other place

Heh. I don't think Auspicium Melioris Aevi or any chinese slogan *could* be used in any normal context.
