Associated PressSingapore, which played a prominent role in the East Timor peacekeeping force and the 2005 Boxing Day Tsunami has recently been rather subdued in contrast. I wonder if this symbolises any shift in positions on the world stage?
France, Italy, Turkey Offer U.N. Troops

France and Italy, along with predominantly Muslim Turkey and Malaysia, signaled willingness Saturday to send troops for a beefed-up U.N. peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon, but consultations are still needed to hammer out the force's makeup and mandate.
New Zealand and Ireland were among smaller nations saying they might contribute peacekeepers for the mission to bring calm after a month of fighting that has killed more than 800 people, displaced hundreds of thousands and caused widespread damage.

Our neighbour to the North is one of the first few countries to volunteer troops to help the situation in Lebanon. They were also one of the first to send assistance for the Nias earthquake.

I think it depends on who we're keeping the peace for. And also, the SAF is a citizen army, so the powers-that-be need to remember who they're sending to the field.
