free phone calls

There's a new VoIP product that seems almost too good to be true. According to Jeremy, Gizmo allows you to call friend and family on their regular phones, as long as they register with the service. This seems unbelievable because unlike Skype, Gizmo actually crosses over from the internet to the conventional telecommunications infrastructure. This must cost them money. So how do they fund it? I guess to find out, I would have to register first, and risk subjecting myself to more spam by email or worse, through the phone.
